During a natural disaster, ensuring the safety and functionality of your off-grid solar power system is crucial. Here are the steps to take:

Before the Disaster

  1. Regular Maintenance: Ensure your solar power system is well-maintained. Check for any signs of wear and tear, and replace or repair components as needed. Ensure generators get a regular service.
  2. Emergency Plan: Develop an emergency plan that includes procedures for your solar power system. Inform all household members of this plan.
  3. Battery Check: Ensure your batteries are fully charged and in good condition.
  4. Backup Power: Ensure your generator has fuel and oil, and test the auto-start function if needed.
  5. Keep Emergency Supplies: Have emergency supplies, such as flashlights, batteries, and a first aid kit, readily available.
  6. Documentation: Keep the user manual for your off-grid system nearby, including our emergency contact number.
  7. Weather Updates: Stay informed about weather conditions and warnings from reliable sources.

During the Disaster

  1. Safety First: Prioritise the safety of yourself and your family. If evacuation is necessary, do so promptly.
  2. Monitor System: Keep an eye on your system if it’s safe to do so. Watch for any signs of damage or malfunction.
  3. Disconnect if Necessary: If there is a risk of flooding or severe damage directly to the system, consider turning off your power system to prevent electrical hazards.
    • Follow your system’s shutdown procedure

After the Disaster

  1. Inspect the system: Once it’s safe, visually inspect the entire solar power system for any signs of obvious damage.
    • Panels: Check for cracks, debris, or any other physical damage.
    • Batteries: Look for any damage or water exposure to the batteries.
  2. Turn the system on again: If everything looks intact, and you have no reason to suspect any part of the system is damaged (including any related wiring, and the solar array/s), follow your system restart procedure to turn the system back on. If you have any doubts or concerns, please call our tech team on 1300 334 839 before turning your system on again.
  3. Monitor the System: Monitor its performance over the next few days to ensure there are no hidden issues.
  4. Professional Inspection: If you suspect any damage or if the system is not functioning correctly, contact us to inspect and repair it.

By following these steps, you can help ensure that your off-grid solar power system remains safe and functional during and after a natural disaster.
